波士頓樂團(Boston)的吉他手湯姆．史羅斯(Tom Schloz)從麻省理工學院機械系(MIT)畢業後，在拍立得公司(Polaroid Corp.) 當工程師。但是他的內心，卻只對音樂有興趣。所以上班對他而言就成了苦差事。後來他離開拍立得公司，成立了Boston這個樂團，雖然Boston因為合約問題興訟多年，但是好歹也有留下幾首好歌，而且Tom Schloz後來作了自己的慈善事業，聽起來就很像「自己想做的事情」。

這首歌表達的是一種「高處不勝寒」的感覺，雖然是以飛上太空的「太空人」來講述對生活、工作的孤單與無力，但事實上是Elton John走紅之後的心情。包括無止盡的追尋，在事業上，剛使盡吃奶的力氣，攀過了一座山，內心的震盪還來不及緩和，馬上又有更高的一座山等著他去爬。這種無止盡的追求，但心中卻不曉得真正的目的地在哪裡，事業的壓力更不允許人停下來思考。如此想到未來的挑戰，就讓人失去對生活的勇氣。
